Marcel Duchamp was a renowned artist of the early 20 Century famous for his involvement in Dadaism and for the concept of Readymades. Later in life from 1918 onwards Duchamp became focused on Chess and devoted most of his time to the past time. He is quoted as saying “I am still a victim of chess. It has all the beauty of art—and much more. It cannot be commercialized. Chess is much purer than art in its social position.”
During this period of his life he created his own chess set which is a master piece of design. Although the set no longer exists it has been recreated by Scott Kildall and Bryan Cera and the designs have been made publicly available on Thingiverse. They do say that it is a work in progress so there may be changes on the way to the designs.

So why not have some fun, experiment with materials and colours transparent PTEG filament produces a nice look but also more vibrant PLA filament, perhaps neon orange PLA filament, could produce some great results. Information and background to the chess set can be found on the creators websites although we think there interpretation of the chess set as belonging to the concept of “Readymades” is a bit out so we would suggest making your own mind up on this.
