The Ultimaker 2 Extended, like the Ultimaker 2 Extended , is one of the most reliable and consistent 3D printers on the market. It is easy to use for the novice yet has the capabilities that are required by the more hardened 3D printer enthusiast making the Ultimaker 2 Extended a great 3D printer for the Home, Office and for the school. The advantage it has over it’s smaller sibling is you get an extra 10cm of build height, extending the possibilities for your 3D builds. This gives it a great advantage over a lot of 3D printers, especially in business where prototyping designs can often require that large 3D printing build volume.
Ultimaker 2+ Extended new features
One of the new features is swappable print head nozzles, you can now use 0.25, 0.4, 0.6 & 0.8mm nozzles. Everybody talks a lot about good layer height resolution, which this printer has (0.02mm) but people don’t mention the importance of nozzle diameter which determines to a large extent the minimum feature size you can print or how detailed you prints can actually be. Therefore with this feature you can choose to print using a large diameter nozzle where the model has not much need for intricate surface details or at 0.25mm on a items such as figures.
Also to allow for better control over using different types of 3D printer filament, especially speciality 3D printer filaments, the Ultimaker 2+ extended has an improved geared feeder mechanism that allows you to adjust the tension on the filament, great for use with softer filaments.
Lastly they have improved on the print fan cooling system. This can have a big impact on print quality, especially where bridges and overhangs are concerned.
Ultimaker 2+ Extended features
With a layer resolution of up to 0.02mm and as low as 0.600mm, print speeds of 30-300mm/s and a nozzle size range of 0.25 – 0.8mm this desktop 3D printer offers great versatility. There are not many 3D printers in this price range that offer these types of specifications, and it does it all very quietly, running at only 49decibels. Once delivered all you have to do is take it out of the box and it is reading to run. It’s easy to use software allows you to get a 3D model ready to print fast. The Print head design that allows you to print to 0.02mm means that you can create designs with almost invisible layering, creating a smooth finish. The Print head dual fans also mean that overhangs and bridges are easily accommodated for and with it’s heated print bed warping can be avoided. The radial scroll wheel means that you can even adjust your print speed and temperature mid print.
All in all this 3D printer will give you hours and hours of stress free, reliable and consistent printing.
Ultimaker 2+ Extended Software
The Ultimaker 2+ Extended uses Cura software. Cura software has been developed by Ultimaker, created from an open source collaboration designed to bring synergism to your 3D printing. Cura Software is free to download and it’s easy to use and has won 3D Printshow’s best consumer software award.
Ultimaker 2+ Extended compatible filament
We also sell 3D printer filament compatible with the Ultimaker 2+ Extended. The key is to make sure that the filament is 2.85mm or, as sometimes listed 3.00mm, in diameter. If in doubt get in touch.
